2020-2024PhotographyDigital Prints from A Place Called HomeSet 01The Central Valley of California is a place of abundance and scarcity existing in contradiction. You see one and live the other. The heat of summer chokes out any illusions of what you are or aren't. "The hand you're dealt," my fourth-generation farmer grandfather often said. In my childhood, I thought the same soil that birthed Joan Didion and Gary Soto would swallow me whole. The first time I breathed easy was the moment I stepped onto the streets of San Francisco and unknowingly left home forever.

I return often, watching with love and grief the tired faces of those who stay, searching for a childhood in a place now changed beyond recognition. This work is that search: the person I became by leaving, and the home I carry that no longer exists anywhere but here, in my own archives turned memory.
